Now, Abundance

“What do you have now?” Peter Block

I’ve been focused on the idea of abundance in the past week, mainly as I spent a large chunk of my time cleaning/purging/organizing my craft* closet.  As items were unearthed from boxes and bags, I realized not only how many talents/memories I had left buried with their physical representations (anyone remember Friendly Plastic?) but also how much of myself I had discarded in pursuit of something external. The process became part excavation (of Self that had been) and part inspiration (of Self that could be), and evolved into ritual as each item was taken out, honoured, and embraced or discarded as it should have been long ago.

In the end, I realized that I have enough “things” in the closet to complete, easily, 75% of the ideas of my “I could make and sell/gift this” list. I was particularly excited to find a large stash of FIMO, dollhouse miniature dishes/trays/baskets, and completed items that I had not even realized I still had, putting me ahead of where I wanted to be, inventory-wise, by this date. So yes, this process helped me to feel abundant, because I can start planned projects now, not later; because I have items already completed, not just in progress; and because I remembered that I can do this kind of work too.

Abundance can be defined in many ways. For me, abundance is not just wealth, but an opportunity for choice. Reconnecting with this aspect of my Self says that I may be making a different choice, but abundance is here and the Path is right. Blessed Be!

On the Road: Dollhouse

The Dollhouse, created by Heather Benning, is a life-sized dollhouse art piece that stands in southwest Manitoba. I had read about it on Apartment Therapy in 2009, but only had the opportunity to see it when travelling from Regina to Winnipeg this summer. I had my mother (long-time collector of all things mini) and friend in tow, so decided to surprise them both by just turning off the highway and “exploring” the countryside.

The house was abandoned in the 1960s, so Benning chose to redecorate it with furnishings from that period (and paint the walls in a variety of candy colours). She then replaced the back wall with plexiglass and has left it to decay as so many others have been.

It was a great little Sunday afternoon adventure and a great art piece. Thanks Heather for its creation (and for helping me with exact directions).

More information on this piece and others can be found at heatherbenning.ca.

Things I Like: Pinterest

I love that technology keeps getting better at supporting what I’m already doing (as opposed to making me adapt to include it). One of my newest excitements is Pinterest:

Pinterest allows users to create boards (based on themes like “Books” “Food and Drink” and “My Style”) and “pin” links/images to them from online sites. Users can also follow each others’ boards (a great way to find people whose style matches your own) and comment on individual pins. Users can also created shared boards to post pins together.

I’m hoping to use Pinterest to keep track of projects (crafts, recipes, etc.) and to connect with similar style folks. It’s a very visual record-keeping tool, and I can see opportunities for work: planning event together, for example, would be very different if people could share from where they are. Feel free to take a look at my Pinterest account (http://pinterest.com/trasiewitch/) and if you need an invite let me know.
